ColorOS 16 on Xiaomi Pad 5 OnePlus Tab Port, Flash Guide
Part of Xiaomi guides, TWRP guides, 2025 guides.
ColorOS 16 has been ported to the Xiaomi Pad 5 from the OnePlus tablet, and it is based on Android 16. You flash it from your PC in fastboot with the install script that ships inside the package. Two things to know before you start: the Play Store is not in the build, and a first install needs a data format.
The video starts muted so it does not blast at you — tap the speaker to hear it, or open it on YouTube.
If you own a Pad 5, you already know the feeling. Great screen, decent speakers, and software that was never really built for a tablet this size. ColorOS 16 changes that. This is a port pulled from the OnePlus tablet and it genuinely fits a big display — split screen, the dock, notes and the app grid all behave like they were designed for it.
It is still a port though. It did not come out of Xiaomi's factory, and the build has a couple of quirks you should know about before you wipe your tablet.
What you need before you touch anything
- The ColorOS 16 ROM zip made for the Xiaomi Pad 5. Not a phone build — a tablet image.
- A PC with fastboot working. Driver installed, cable that is not falling apart.
- The tablet charged past 50 percent. First boot is slow and you do not want it dying halfway.
- A backup. This install formats data the first time. Everything on internal storage goes.
- Optionally, TWRP or PBRP if you would rather flash from recovery than from fastboot.
Step 1 — unzip the package on your PC
Download the ROM zip and extract it into a folder you can find again. Use 7-Zip or WinRAR rather than the built-in Windows extractor. The built-in one sometimes flattens the folder structure, and that is exactly what breaks the script later.
Inside you should see the images plus the install and update scripts sitting next to them. If you only have loose files and no script, extract it again.
Step 2 — put the tablet in fastboot and connect it
Power the Pad 5 off. Hold Volume Down and Power until the fastboot screen shows up. Plug it into the PC and run:
fastboot devices
You want a serial number and the word fastboot back. If it comes back empty, the driver is missing. Fix that now, not halfway through the flash.
Step 3 — run the install script, not the update script
This is the single most common mistake with this ROM. The package ships with two scripts and they do different jobs:
- Install script — use this the first time. It writes the whole thing.
- Update script — only if you are already on ColorOS 16 and moving between builds of the same ROM.
Run the install script, follow the prompts in the window, and let it work. Partition names scroll past. Some lines take a while. That is normal.
Step 4 — let it boot and stay out of the way
Do not unplug the cable. Do not close the window. Do not tap the screen to check if it is alive. When the flash finishes the tablet reboots on its own.
First boot on this port takes a while. Longer than stock. Let it sit.
Where people get stuck
- Running the update script on a fresh install. It will not lay down what a first install needs, and you end up back in recovery.
- Not formatting data. If you skip it on a first install, the tablet just reboots back to recovery and you think the ROM is broken. It is not — format data and flash again.
- Hunting for the Play Store. It is not in this build. That is by design, not damage. Go install it yourself before you start relying on the tablet.
One honest paragraph
This port is good, and I mean that. The tablet layout is the kind of thing you notice for the first ten minutes and then stop noticing, which is the best compliment you can give it. But a port is a port. The Play Store missing is the main friction, and there is no factory Xiaomi support behind it. If you want a tablet that just boots and works with zero effort, stay where you are. If you want to see what ColorOS feels like on this hardware, this is a clean way to find out.
Do a full boot and finish setup before you restore anything. If something is going to break, let it break on an empty tablet.

Full description from the video
ColorOS 16 on the Xiaomi Pad 5 — a port from the OnePlus tablet, based on Android 16, and it's a genuinely good fit for a big screen.
Tablets live or die on their software, and ColorOS brings a proper tablet layout to the Pad 5. Split screen, the dock, notes and the app grid all feel like they were made for this size. There's a moment where you forget it's a port.
Two things to know up front. First, the Play Store isn't in the build — you'll need to add it yourself. Second, the install is fastboot-based with a script, which is the easy path, or a recovery flash if you prefer.
The scripts handle first-time installs and updates differently. Use the install script the first time and the update script if you're staying on the same ROM. Mixing those up is the classic mistake.
📱 Device : Xiaomi Pad 5
🧩 ROM : ColorOS 16 (port)
🤖 Android : 16
📦 Source : ported from the OnePlus tablet
🛠️ What You Need
- The ROM zip for the Pad 5
- fastboot on a PC
- A data USB cable
- TWRP or PBRP if you're flashing by recovery instead
📝 Steps
- Unzip the ROM package on your PC.
- Put the tablet in fastboot mode and connect it.
- On Windows, run the install script for a first-time flash.
- If you're already on the same ROM, run the update script instead.
- Follow the on-screen prompts, then let it boot.
- First boot takes a while — let it finish, no panic.
⚠️ Where People Get Stuck
- Running the update script on a first install.
- Forgetting to format data on a first install, so it just reboots back to recovery.
- Looking for the Play Store in the app drawer and assuming the ROM is broken.
⚠️ The Play Store isn't included in this build, so plan to install it before you rely on the tablet.
Common questions
Does flashing ColorOS 16 on the Xiaomi Pad 5 wipe my data?
Yes. A first install uses the install script and formats data, so internal storage is cleared and you get the setup wizard again. Copy your photos and files off the tablet before you begin.
Is the Play Store included in this ColorOS 16 port?
No. The build does not ship with the Play Store, so you have to add it yourself after first boot. People see an empty app drawer and assume the ROM failed, but it is just missing by design.
What is the difference between the install script and the update script?
The install script is for a first-time flash and writes everything the ROM needs. The update script is only for moving between builds of the same ROM once you are already running it. Using the update script on a fresh install is the classic mistake.
How long does the first boot take on this ROM?
It takes noticeably longer than a normal boot, often a few minutes. That is expected on a first boot of a ported ROM. Leave the tablet plugged in and do not interrupt it.
Can I flash ColorOS 16 by recovery instead of fastboot?
Yes. The fastboot script is the easier path, but you can use TWRP or PBRP if you prefer a recovery flash. Either way, remember that a first install needs a data format.
Before you flash
- Back up everything you would miss — unlocking and flashing usually wipe the phone.
- Check the file is built for your exact model and region.
- Keep a PC and a working cable around so a bootloop can be recovered.
