DerpFest 16 on Xiaomi Pad 5 — Android 16 Install + Full Tour
Part of Xiaomi guides, DerpFest guides, 2025 guides.
DerpFest 16 is an official Android 16 build for the Xiaomi Pad 5, and it installs through its own packaged installer instead of a long list of fastboot commands. You point it at Windows or Linux, pick your options, and it flashes for you. I went clean, because moving to a new Android base with old data is how you get a bootloop.
The video starts muted so it does not blast at you — tap the speaker to hear it, or open it on YouTube.
Most custom ROM guides for a tablet are twenty commands long and one typo away from a bad evening. DerpFest 16 is not that. The package ships with its own installer, so you pick a mode, answer a couple of prompts, and it does the flashing. That is a big part of why this one is worth trying.
It has landed on the Xiaomi Pad 5 with an Android 16 base, and it is an official build. Early official, but official.
What you need
- The DerpFest 16 package for the Xiaomi Pad 5.
- A Windows or Linux PC, plus a cable you trust. Not the gas station one.
- The ADB fastboot tool and drivers, set up before you start.
- An unlocked bootloader.
- A full backup, because you are going to wipe.
Step 1 — reboot to fastboot and connect
Put the tablet in fastboot mode and plug it into the PC. Check that fastboot sees it before you go any further. If the PC never sees the tablet, nothing in the installer will work, and that is a driver problem, not a ROM problem.
Step 2 — extract the package
Download the package and extract it. Do not try to run the installer from inside the zip file — that trips up more people than anything else in this whole process. Extract first, then open the folder.
Step 3 — run the installer and pick your options
Inside the extracted folder you will find the installer. Run it and choose the path for Windows or Linux. It then walks you through the choices:
- Whether to wipe. I did, and I would do the same. Coming from a different Android base, old data is asking for a bootloop.
- Which root method you want, KernelSU or Magisk, or none at all. You can skip root entirely and just use the tablet.
Since a previous DerpFest install can be updated instead, the installer gives you that option too. If you are moving from a completely different ROM, ignore it and do a clean install.
Step 4 — let it flash, then wait out the first boot
It flashes, then reboots. First boot on a new Android 16 base takes longer than a normal restart. Leave it alone and let it finish. Do not pull the cable to see if it is stuck, because then it is stuck.
What I checked afterwards
This is the part people actually want to know, so I went through it screen by screen once it booted:
- Tile customisation — it is there, and it is what you would expect from DerpFest.
- Navigation gestures — the tablet handles them properly, which is not a given on a big screen.
- Play Store certification — I checked whether the store shows up certified. If your banking or streaming apps care about that, you care about it too.
- The overall setup flow — the setup steps look tidy rather than cobbled together, which tells you something about how much care went into the build.
The tablet also just feels fresher than it does on the older firmware. Scrolling, animations, the general responsiveness — it is a newer base and you can tell.
Where people get stuck
- Running the installer from inside the zip. Extract the package first, then run it from the extracted folder.
- Missing fastboot drivers. The PC never sees the tablet and the installer goes nowhere.
- Skipping the wipe when coming from a different ROM. A new Android base plus old data equals a bootloop, more often than not.
Who should install it
Install DerpFest 16 if you want an official Android 16 build on this tablet and you would rather not hand-type fastboot commands. The installer makes it approachable, and the build feels current in a way the old firmware does not.
Be a little careful if this is your only device for work. It is an early official build, so treat it as something you test before you trust it with anything important. Back up first, do the clean install, and give it a week before you decide.

Full description from the video
DerpFest 16 has landed on the Xiaomi Pad 5 with an Android 16 base, and in this one I flash it from scratch and then walk the whole tablet screen by screen so you know exactly what you're getting before you wipe anything.
The install is the nice surprise. There's no long list of fastboot commands here — the package ships with its own installer, so you point it at Windows or Linux, pick a mode, and it handles the flashing for you. I still went clean, because moving to a new Android base with old data sitting around is asking for a bootloop.
After it booted I checked the things that actually matter: tile customization, the navigation gestures, and whether Play Store shows up certified. The tablet feels noticeably fresher than on the older firmware, and the setup steps look tidy rather than cobbled together.
Honest part: this is an early official build, so treat it as something you test before you trust it with your daily work. A wipe is part of the deal — back up first.

- An unlocked bootloader and a full backup.
📝 Steps
- Reboot the tablet into fastboot mode and connect it to the PC.
- Extract the downloaded package.
- Open it and choose the install option for Windows or Linux.
- If DerpFest was already installed, you can run the update instead.
- Tell it whether to wipe — I did, and I'd do the same.

- Let it flash, then wait out the first boot.
⚠️ Where People Get Stuck
- Running the installer from inside the zip instead of the extracted folder.
- Missing fastboot drivers, so the PC never sees the tablet.
- Skipping the wipe and landing on a looped boot animation.
🗒 Notes On This Build
- November security patch is in.
- The Play integrity issue is resolved, but a valid keybox is needed.
- Out of the box, play integrity is effectively dead — you need a keybox for any verdict.
- To get strong integrity without modules: disable forcing strong (top toggle in spoofing settings), then load a valid keybox in spoofing.
- Special thanks to kenway214 for GameBar, ArKT for the tab-specific fixes, Jean for the Telegram donation, all the testers, and my core team.
Common questions
Does DerpFest 16 wipe the Xiaomi Pad 5 when I install it?
It depends on the option you pick in the installer, but a clean install is strongly recommended. Moving to a new Android 16 base with old data sitting underneath is a common cause of a bootloop.
Do I need to type fastboot commands to install DerpFest 16?
No. The package includes its own installer. You extract it, run it on Windows or Linux, choose your options, and it handles the flashing for you.
Does DerpFest 16 include root?
Root is optional. During install you can pick KernelSU or Magisk, or skip root entirely and run the tablet unrooted. It is your choice at setup time.
Is DerpFest 16 official for the Xiaomi Pad 5?
Yes, it is an official build, but it is early. Treat it as something to test on before you rely on it for work, and keep a backup of anything important.
The installer does nothing because my PC cannot see the tablet. What is the problem?
It is almost always the fastboot driver. The PC needs to recognise the tablet in fastboot mode before the installer can do anything, so install the ADB and fastboot driver and confirm detection first.
Before you flash
- Back up everything you would miss — unlocking and flashing usually wipe the phone.
- Check the file is built for your exact model and region.
- Keep a PC and a working cable around so a bootloop can be recovered.
