Evolution X on Xiaomi Pad 5 Android 16 Install — Full Steps
Part of Xiaomi guides, Evolution X guides, 2025 guides.
Evolution X is an unofficial Android 16 build for the Xiaomi Pad 5, and you flash it from fastboot the same way you would a phone. Get the tablet image, flash it in order, format data once, then let the first boot take its time. The main thing that separates the people who succeed here from the people who do not is using the right file.
The video starts muted so it does not blast at you — tap the speaker to hear it, or open it on YouTube.
Flashing a tablet is the same idea as flashing a phone, with a couple of tablet-specific things to watch. Evolution X gives you Android 16 on the Xiaomi Pad 5 with a clean system and no heavy manufacturer layer on top.
That is the appeal. The Pad 5 is a decent piece of hardware, and a custom ROM changes how the whole tablet feels — lighter, faster to update, and yours to configure. Here is the order to do it in.
What you need
- Xiaomi Pad 5 with an unlocked bootloader.
- The Evolution X package built for the Pad 5. Not a phone build.
- ADB and Fastboot tool with the USB driver installed on your PC.
- A full backup, because this wipes the tablet.
- Enough charge to survive a long first boot. Half full at minimum.
Step 1 — back up everything
Before a single cable goes in. This process wipes the tablet, and if the bootloader is not unlocked yet, that unlock wipes it too. Copy your photos, documents and downloads off. Then do it again on the thing you forgot.
Step 2 — set up the ADB and Fastboot tool and check detection
Install the driver, plug the tablet in, and confirm the PC can actually see it. This is the step that decides whether the rest of the guide works. Get detection right first.
Step 3 — boot into fastboot
Power the tablet off and boot it into fastboot mode. Plug it into the PC and run:
fastboot devices
You want your device listed. No device means no driver, and no driver means no flash.
Step 4 — flash the Evolution X package
Flash the package for this tablet, following the order it comes in. Do not skip around and do not improvise. The order exists for a reason — partitions depend on each other, and going out of sequence is how people end up with a tablet that will not boot.
Keep the cable in. Do not poke the tablet. Wait for the tool to tell you it is finished.
Step 5 — reboot to recovery and format data
Reboot into recovery and format data. This is the step that makes the difference between a tablet that boots and a tablet that sits on the boot animation for twenty minutes while you slowly lose patience.
Do it once, do it properly, and only then move on.
Step 6 — boot to system and wait
Boot to system. Android 16's first start on a fresh install always takes longer than you expect. Walk away from it if you have to. Coming back to a finished setup wizard is a much nicer feeling than staring at a logo.
Step 7 — check the basics
Once you are in, run through the things you would actually notice if they were broken:
- Wi-Fi connects and stays connected.
- Display — brightness, rotation, and how it looks at full size.
- Sound through the speakers.
- Anything you plug in, like the keyboard or a USB accessory.
- The Play Store, and whether it shows up certified. Banking and streaming apps care about that.
Where people get stuck
- Using a phone build. The Pad 5 needs an image built for the Pad 5. A phone build will not boot on this tablet, full stop. This is the biggest one.
- Skipping the data format. You flash, it bootloops, and you conclude the ROM is bad. Format data and it usually just works.
- Flashing on a low battery. If the tablet dies partway through, you are not flashing anymore, you are recovering. Charge it first.
One honest paragraph
This is an unofficial build, so nobody is going to hand you a support contract for it. What you get in exchange is Android 16 on a tablet that Xiaomi moved on from, updated on the community's schedule instead of the manufacturer's. For a device you mostly watch and read on, that is a good trade.
Set it up, use it for a week, and decide then. If something does not work, check whether it is a known issue for this build before you assume you flashed it wrong.

Full description from the video
Evolution X on the Xiaomi Pad 5 — Android 16 on the tablet, from fastboot to first boot. Same idea as flashing a phone, with a couple of tablet things to watch.
The Pad 5 is a fun one to flash because a custom ROM changes how the whole tablet feels: cleaner system, no heavy manufacturer layer on top, and updates that don't wait on anyone else. Everything here is a tablet image, so the files matter more than usual — a phone build will not boot on this thing. Get the right package, flash it in order, format data once, and then let the first boot do its slow thing in the background.

Common questions
Does flashing Evolution X on the Xiaomi Pad 5 wipe my data?
Yes. This process includes a data format, and unlocking the bootloader also erases the tablet if you have not done it yet. Back everything up before you start.
Will a phone build of Evolution X work on the Xiaomi Pad 5?
No. You need the build made for the Pad 5. A phone image will not boot on this tablet, and using the wrong file is the most common reason this process fails.
Do I need to format data before booting Evolution X?
Yes, reboot into recovery and format data before the first boot. Skipping it leaves old data under the new system and usually ends in a bootloop on the boot animation.
How long does the first boot take on Evolution X?
Longer than a normal boot, because it is a fresh Android 16 install. It is normal for it to take several minutes. Let it finish without interrupting it.
Is Evolution X official for the Xiaomi Pad 5?
No, it is an unofficial build. That is part of why it exists — Xiaomi stopped giving this tablet attention, and the community build is what keeps it on a current Android version.
Before you flash
- Back up everything you would miss — unlocking and flashing usually wipe the phone.
- Check the file is built for your exact model and region.
- Keep a PC and a working cable around so a bootloop can be recovered.
