Flash MIUI Fastboot ROM on Any Xiaomi Back to Stock Guide
Part of Xiaomi guides, 2023 guides.
You flashed an AOSP build, played with a modded MIUI, and now you want your phone
back to plain stock MIUI. No Mi Flash Tool, no drama. A fastboot ROM, platform
tools and one script are enough — as long as the files land in the right folder,
which is exactly where most people quietly give up.
The video starts muted so it does not blast at you — tap the speaker to hear it, or open it on YouTube.
Let me guess how this went. You were on a custom ROM, things were fine for a
while, then one small thing started bothering you — a bank app refusing to open,
a camera that's a step behind stock, or just that itch to go back to something
that simply works. So now you are staring at a phone running something you want
gone, wondering if going back to stock means a weekend of Fastboot commands.
It does not. This method is short. It is also unforgiving about one single thing:
where the files sit. Get that right and the whole job is a double-click.
What you actually need
- The fastboot ROM for your exact model. Not the recovery package — this
method needs the fastboot one, and they are not the same download.
- Platform Tools (adb + fastboot) extracted on your PC.
- The ADB and Fastboot driver installed, so Windows actually sees the phone.
If Device Manager shows an unknown device, stop here and fix that first.
- A cable that is not falling apart, and a battery above 50%.
- Twenty minutes where you can leave the phone plugged in and alone.
That fourth point sounds like a joke. It isn't. Most "this ROM bricked my phone"
stories are actually a cable that dropped mid-flash.
Step 1 - take the fastboot package, not the recovery one
Go to the link below for your model and download the fastboot ROM. These packages
are big, usually a few gigabytes, and they contain the flash scripts plus the raw
images. If the file you downloaded ends up being a small recovery zip with an
updater-script inside and no .bat files, you picked the wrong one. Go back and
take the other one.
Match the model exactly. A ROM for another variant will flash happily and then
leave you with a phone that boots to a black screen, and that is a much longer
evening.
Step 2 - extract it properly and drop the platform tools in
Extract the ROM zip into a folder you can find again, something like
C:\miui\. Use 7-Zip or WinRAR — not the built-in Windows extractor, which
sometimes flattens the structure and gives you a folder full of loose files.
If the extracted folder has no flash_all.bat inside, the extraction went wrong.
Now copy the contents of your platform tools folder — adb.exe,
fastboot.exe and the DLLs next to them — into that same ROM folder. They have
to sit beside the images and the script, not in a subfolder. This is the step
people skip, and it is exactly why the script opens a black window and vanishes
before you can read a single line.
Step 2b - a quick sanity check before you commit
Open a command window in that folder and run:
fastboot devices
Nothing connected yet, so you should just get an empty line and no error. If it
says "fastboot is not recognized", the tools are in the wrong place. Fix that now
rather than halfway through a flash.
Step 3 - fastboot mode, and make sure the PC sees the phone
Power the phone off. Hold Volume Down + Power until you see the fastboot
screen — usually the bunny logo with text, no MIUI. Plug it into the PC and run:
fastboot devices
This time it must print a long serial number and the word fastboot. No serial
number means the driver is missing, and no amount of retrying the script will fix
that. Sort the driver out first.
Step 4 - run the script and then keep your hands off it
Inside the ROM folder you will see several files. The one you want is
flash_all.bat. Right-click and run it as administrator. A black window opens
and starts printing partition names: super, boot, vbmeta, and so on. Some
lines take a while. That is normal.
Do not unplug the cable. Do not close the window. Do not tap the phone to see if
it is alive. When the script is done the phone reboots on its own into a clean,
first-boot MIUI, and the setup wizard appears.
Where this usually goes wrong
- Wrong package. A recovery ROM does not contain what this method needs.
It has to be the fastboot build.
- Broken folder structure. Extract with 7-Zip or WinRAR so the subfolders and
the .bat files stay where the script expects them.
- A dead USB port or a flaky cable. If the window starts and then dies at
super, that is usually the connection, not the ROM.
Things people ask before starting
A full fastboot flash resets the phone. Everything on internal storage goes,
so move your photos off first. The standard script leaves the bootloader
unlocked, so you can keep flashing later if you want. And no, you do not need
Mi Flash Tool, which is the whole point of doing it this way.
If the driver side of this feels like the annoying part, the free Rom Flasher
tool on GitHub bundles the ADB and fastboot driver install into a couple of
clicks so you are not hunting Device Manager. It is free, and the link is in the
downloads section.
One last thing. Do a full boot and finish the setup wizard before you start
restoring anything. If something is going to break, you want it breaking on an
empty phone, not on top of two hours of restored files.

Full description from the video
How to come back from any AOSP ROM or MIUI mod to official MIUI — the fastboot package, the folder trick, and one script that does the whole job.
So you've been running an AOSP ROM or a modded MIUI build and now you want stock back. The good news: you don't need Mi Flash Tool or a complicated setup. A fastboot ROM, platform tools and one script are enough — you just have to put the right files in the right folder first. Get that part wrong and the script closes before doing anything, which is where most people give up and assume it's broken.
🛠️ What You Need
- The fastboot ROM for your exact device — not the recovery package
- Platform Tools extracted on your PC
- The ADB and Fastboot driver installed so the phone is actually detected
- A charged battery and a cable that isn't falling apart
📝 Steps
- Download the fastboot ROM for your model.
- Extract the zip. Inside are the flash scripts and the images.
- Copy the platform tools files into that same folder.
- Boot the phone into fastboot and plug it in.
- Run the flash script and leave the phone alone until it finishes.
- It reboots on its own into a fresh MIUI install.
⚠️ Where People Get Stuck
- Grabbing the recovery ROM. It doesn't contain what this method needs — always take the fastboot package.
- Extracting with a tool that breaks the folder structure, so the script can't find the images.
- Unplugging early. Fastboot flashing has no patience for that.
❓ Common Questions
- Does this wipe my data? Yes, a full fastboot flash resets the phone to stock.
- Will it lock my bootloader again? The standard script leaves it unlocked.
- Do I need Mi Flash Tool? No — this method exists so you don't have to.
- Can I flash another model's ROM? No. Match the ROM to your exact device.
Common questions
The script window opens and closes instantly. What is wrong?
The platform tools are not sitting in the ROM folder, or the folder structure
broke during extraction. Put fastboot.exe right next to flash_all.bat, not in a
subfolder, and extract with 7-Zip or WinRAR instead of the built-in Windows
extractor.
Does this wipe my data?
Yes. A full fastboot flash writes the whole image, so internal storage is
reset. Copy your photos, downloads and anything you care about off the phone
before you start, and expect the setup wizard on first boot.
Will the bootloader lock itself again?
No. The standard flash_all.bat leaves it unlocked, which is what you want if
you plan to flash again later. Only the flash_all_lock.bat script relocks it,
and you should avoid that one unless you are selling the phone.
Do I need Mi Flash Tool for this?
No, and that is the reason this method exists. A fastboot ROM plus platform
tools in the right folder is enough. Mi Flash Tool adds its own driver and folder
requirements that cause more failures than they solve.
Can I flash the fastboot ROM of another Xiaomi model on my phone?
Do not. Packages are built for a specific model and region. A mismatched
fastboot ROM can write partitions your phone cannot boot from, which turns a
five-minute job into an unbootable device with no recovery.
Before you flash
- Back up everything you would miss — unlocking and flashing usually wipe the phone.
- Check the file is built for your exact model and region.
- Keep a PC and a working cable around so a bootloop can be recovered.
