Part of HyperOS guides, 2025 guides.

Three HyperOS 3 settings most people never find: animation scale, back tap gestures and battery optimization. The animation one takes thirty seconds and makes the whole phone feel quicker, with no performance tricks involved. Back tap and the battery checkup are the other two worth turning on.

The video starts muted so it does not blast at you — tap the speaker to hear it, or open it on YouTube.

HyperOS has a lot going on behind menus nobody opens. You can use the phone for a year and never touch them. Three of those settings actually change how the phone feels day to day, and they cost you about two minutes between them.

None of this is a gimmick list. Each one does something you will notice. Let me take them in the order I would do them, starting with the one that gives the biggest return for the least effort.

1. Animation scale, the thirty-second win

Open Settings and go to About phone, then tap the build number a few times until it tells you developer options are enabled. Go back, open Developer options, and find the three animation scale entries.

Set all three to 0.5x. That is it.

What this does is shorten how long the system spends animating. Nothing is overclocked, nothing is being pushed harder, and your battery does not care. The hardware was always capable of moving this quickly. The animations were just being polite about it.

The result is a phone that feels faster everywhere: opening apps, switching apps, pulling down the shade, going home. It is the single most noticeable change on this list.

Do not set them to off entirely unless you like things feeling abrupt. 0.5x is the sweet spot for most people. If it ever feels too twitchy, come back and put them at 1x.

2. Back tap, for the things you do fifty times a day

Back tap lets you double tap or triple tap the back of the phone to run an action. Screenshot, open the camera, flip the torch on. Things you currently reach for a swipe or a button to do.

Once you assign screenshot to a double tap, going back feels slow. It is one of those changes where you forget it was ever not there.

A couple of practical notes. The tap has to actually reach the phone, so a very thick case can swallow it, particularly one with a stiff back panel or a metal plate for a car mount. Try it with and without the case if it feels unreliable. And give yourself a day to learn the tap, because it will fire accidentally a few times at first.

You can assign different actions to double and triple tap, so pick the two you use most.

3. Battery optimization, based on your usage not a guess

HyperOS has a battery checkup that looks at how you actually use the phone and suggests real changes. That is more useful than a generic list of tips, because the biggest drainer on your phone is not the same as on mine.

Pair that with per-app battery saver. You can put the apps that quietly chew through battery in the background into a stricter mode while leaving the ones you actually use alone. Messaging apps and anything that needs to wake up for notifications are the ones to be careful with. Restrict the wrong app and you will miss messages, which people then blame on the ROM.

A useful split: restrict apps you open deliberately, leave the ones that need to reach you.

What these do not do

One honest note

Of the three, only one is worth doing if you are in a hurry. Change the animation scale, reboot nothing, done in under a minute. The other two are the kind of thing you set up once and then stop thinking about.

Also worth saying: none of this needs root, recovery or a flash. If you are sitting there with a phone you have not modified at all, you can still do all three today. And if you do end up flashing something later, the free Rom Flasher tool on GitHub handles the ADB and fastboot driver install so the PC side is not a fight.

Full description from the video

Three HyperOS 3 settings most people never find — animation speed, back tap shortcuts and battery optimization. Small changes, big difference in how the phone feels.

HyperOS is packed with things sitting behind menus nobody opens. These three are the ones I'd enable on any device running it, because they change the everyday feel instead of adding gimmicks.

The first is animation speed. Drop the three scale values to 0.5x and the whole UI feels instantly faster, without any performance trickery. It's just the animation timing being honest about how quick the hardware actually is.

The second is back tap. Double or triple tap the back of your phone to grab a screenshot, open the camera or flip on the torch. Once you start using it, going back feels slow.

The third is battery optimization. HyperOS has a battery checkup that suggests real changes based on how you use the phone, plus per-app battery saver on top of that.

🎯 What It Does

  • Speeds up the whole UI by shortening animation scales
  • Adds a back tap gesture for quick actions
  • Surfaces battery suggestions based on your own usage

💡 Best Part

  • The animation tweak is the fastest win. Thirty seconds, and the phone feels new.
  • Back tap saves a swipe every time you want a screenshot.
  • Battery checkup points at apps that are quietly draining you.

🚫 What It Doesn't Do

  • It won't unlock features your hardware doesn't have.
  • Back tap needs a case that isn't so thick it swallows the taps.
  • Battery suggestions help, but heavy apps still cost battery.

Common questions

How do I make HyperOS 3 feel faster without root?

Open Developer options and set all three animation scale entries to 0.5x. It shortens the system animations so the interface responds more quickly, and it takes about thirty seconds with no root needed.

Where is the back tap setting in HyperOS 3?

It sits in the gesture or shortcut settings area, and it lets you assign actions to a double or triple tap on the back of the phone. If the taps are unreliable, your case may be too thick.

Does changing animation scale affect battery life?

Barely, and not in the way people assume. You are shortening how long animations run, not making the processor work harder, so the battery difference is negligible. The change is about how quick the phone feels.

Is back tap available on all HyperOS phones?

It depends on your device and region, since not every model exposes the same gesture settings. If you cannot find it in the gesture menu, your build does not include it.

Does HyperOS battery optimization actually help?

It can, because the battery checkup suggests changes based on your own usage rather than generic advice, and per-app battery saver puts background apps under stricter limits. Be careful restricting messaging apps, or you may miss notifications.
