Poco X7 Pro Bootloader Unlock Mi Unlock Tool, Step by Step
Part of POCO guides, 2025 guides.
Unlocking the POCO X7 Pro bootloader runs through the official Mi Unlock Tool, and it comes with a 168-hour wait after your first attempt. You enable developer options, turn on OEM unlocking and USB debugging, bind your account in Mi Unlock status on mobile data, then run the tool from a Windows PC in fastboot. The unlock wipes the phone.
The video starts muted so it does not blast at you — tap the speaker to hear it, or open it on YouTube.
You want a custom recovery or a custom ROM, which means the bootloader has to be unlocked first. On the POCO X7 Pro there is no shortcut around this, and there is no clever trick that skips the waiting period. The official route is the only route.
So here is the plan: start the clock today, come back in a week.
What you need
- A Windows PC.
- The official Mi Unlock Tool.
- Your Mi account login, and you need to stay logged into it.
- A phone charged above 60%.
- Mobile data, not Wi-Fi, for the account binding step.
- A data USB cable — a charge-only cable will not work.
- A full backup, because the unlock wipes the phone.
Step 1 — back up everything
Do this first, before anything else. Unlocking the bootloader wipes the phone completely — photos, apps, messages, the lot. There is no partial version of this.
Copy your files off while the phone is still normal and booting. That is the only window you get.
Step 2 — enable developer options
Open Settings and find your HyperOS version entry. Tap it several times until the phone tells you that you are now a developer.
It sounds like a joke the first time. It is the actual switch.
Step 3 — turn on OEM unlocking and USB debugging
In developer options, enable OEM unlocking and USB debugging. Both. If OEM unlocking is greyed out, your account binding is not finished yet — go to the next step and come back.
Step 4 — bind your account in Mi Unlock status
Find Mi Unlock status and bind your Mi account to the phone.
Do this on mobile data. Not Wi-Fi. Xiaomi is strict about the SIM and the account matching, and binding over Wi-Fi is the single most common reason the timer never starts.
This is the moment the 168-hour clock begins.
Step 5 — boot to fastboot and connect
Power the phone off, hold the fastboot button combination to enter fastboot mode, and connect it to the PC with your data cable.
Step 6 — run Mi Unlock Tool
Open Mi Unlock Tool on the PC and log in with the same Mi account you bound on the phone.
Hit unlock. The tool will detect the device and either proceed or tell you to wait.
Step 7 — wait the 168 hours, then come back
If the tool tells you to wait, that is not an error. It is the waiting period doing its job.
During those seven days:
- Stay logged into the same Mi account.
- Keep using the phone normally.
- Do not sign into a different Mi account. That resets the timer.
Come back after the wait, run the tool again, and the unlock goes through. Most people who thought the tool was broken simply rushed this part.
Where people get stuck
- Binding the account over Wi-Fi. The timer never starts, and it looks like the tool is refusing you.
- Switching Mi accounts during the wait. This resets your seven days. Do not.
- Trying to speed the timer up. There is no bypass, and you do not want an unofficial one anyway.
- Using the wrong cable. A charge-only cable means the tool sees nothing at all.
- A greyed-out OEM unlocking toggle. That usually means the account binding did not complete, so go back and redo the binding step.
The honest part
Unlocking voids your warranty, and it can break apps that check device integrity — banking and payment apps are the usual casualties. Go in knowing that. There are ways to get some of those working again afterwards, but it is extra work, not a given.
Also, this is a one-time pain. Once the bootloader is unlocked, you can flash recoveries and ROMs freely without waiting again. That is why the smart move is to start the clock now even if you are not ready to flash anything today.
If the ADB and fastboot side of flashing later is where you expect to struggle, the free Rom Flasher tool bundles the ADB and fastboot driver install into a couple of clicks. It is free, and the link sits in the downloads section on this page.

Unlock the bootloader on your Poco X7 Pro the official way — Mi Unlock Tool, developer options, and the 168-hour wait nobody warns you about.
This is the step you have to get through if you ever want a custom recovery or a custom ROM. There's no shortcut around the waiting period, so the smart move is to start the clock today and come back in a week.
Back up everything first. The unlock wipes your phone completely — photos, apps, the lot. Charge it past 60%, and use mobile data, not Wi-Fi, when you bind the account in Mi Unlock status. Xiaomi is strict about the SIM and the account matching.
A lot of people get stuck thinking the tool is broken. It isn't. You just have to stay logged into the same Mi account and keep using the phone normally for those seven days. Then it goes through on the second attempt.

Unlocking voids your warranty and can break banking apps, so go in with your eyes open.
Common questions
How long do I have to wait to unlock the POCO X7 Pro bootloader?
168 hours after your first unlock attempt, which is seven days. There is no way to skip it. Start the clock today and come back when it expires.
Why does Mi Unlock Tool keep saying I have to wait?
That is the waiting period, not a fault. If you bind the account and then try to unlock immediately, the tool makes you wait seven days. Run it again after the timer expires.
Does unlocking the bootloader wipe my phone?
Yes. The unlock resets the device completely, including internal storage. Back up your photos, apps and messages before you start.
Should I bind my Mi account on Wi-Fi or mobile data?
Use mobile data. Xiaomi wants the SIM and the Mi account to match, and binding over Wi-Fi is the most common reason the 168-hour timer never starts.
Will my banking apps still work after unlocking?
Sometimes not. Unlocking can break apps that check device integrity, and banking and payment apps are the usual ones affected. Unlocking also voids your warranty, so decide before you proceed.
Before you flash
- Back up everything you would miss — unlocking and flashing usually wipe the phone.
- Check the file is built for your exact model and region.
- Keep a PC and a working cable around so a bootloop can be recovered.
