Root Xiaomi Pad 5 in 1 Minute Fast HyperOS Magisk Guide
Part of Xiaomi guides, HyperOS guides, 2025 guides.
Rooting the Xiaomi Pad 5 on HyperOS takes about a minute once you have the right files. You boot a modded TWRP image with fastboot, push the Magisk APK across with adb, install it from recovery, and reboot. The modded TWRP is the file most people miss — stock recovery will not do it.
The video starts muted so it does not blast at you — tap the speaker to hear it, or open it on YouTube.
Root does not have to mean flashing a whole custom ROM and starting over. On the Xiaomi Pad 5 running HyperOS, it is genuinely quick: one image, one APK, a handful of commands, and you are done.
The trick is that it is a temporary boot. You are not permanently replacing recovery. You boot the modded TWRP image straight from the PC with fastboot boot, do your work, and reboot back to normal. That is why the whole thing is so short.
What you need
- Xiaomi Pad 5 with an unlocked bootloader. No exceptions here.
- The modded TWRP image for the Pad 5. Stock recovery will not work, and this is the file people forget.
- The Magisk APK.
- adb and fastboot tool plus the driver installed on your PC.
Step 1 — connect and get to fastboot
Plug the tablet into the PC and open your adb and fastboot tool. Reboot the device to fastboot:
adb reboot bootloader
Wait for the fastboot screen to come up on the tablet. That is your cue that the PC can now talk to it.
Step 2 — boot the modded TWRP
This is the move that makes the method work. Instead of flashing the recovery image onto the tablet, you boot it in memory:
fastboot boot followed by the name of your modded TWRP image.
The tablet boots straight into TWRP. Nothing was written to the tablet at this point, which is exactly the point — it is a one-time boot for the job in front of you.
Step 3 — push Magisk across
With TWRP up, push the Magisk APK to the tablet over adb:
adb push and the APK name, to a folder on the tablet like /sdcard/.
It copies across in seconds. Nothing dramatic happens on screen, so do not sit waiting for a progress bar to make an announcement.
Step 4 — install it from inside TWRP
In TWRP, find the Magisk APK you just pushed and install it from there. This is the step that actually patches and roots the system.
Let it run, then go back to the main TWRP screen.
Step 5 — reboot and open Magisk once
Reboot the tablet:
adb reboot
When it comes back up, open the Magisk app once. This is the step people skip and then wonder why root looks missing. Magisk finishes its setup on first launch — it may need to install a helper and ask you to reboot once more. Do that, open it again, and you should see Magisk reporting that it is installed and active.
Where people get stuck
- Using stock recovery instead of the modded TWRP. It will not work. This is the single most common failure with this method.
- The driver is missing, so adb never sees the tablet. If
adb devicesis empty, fix the driver before you touch anything else. - Not opening Magisk once after the reboot. Root is there, but it does not look installed until you launch the app and let it finish setup.
One honest paragraph
The "one minute" claim is real, with one caveat: it is one minute of commands, not one minute of your evening. Downloading the modded TWRP, installing the driver, and getting the tablet to fastboot is most of the actual work. Once you are at that fastboot screen, yes, it is quick.
The other honest part is that unlocking the bootloader is the expensive step, and not in money. It wipes the tablet. If you have not unlocked yet, back everything up first, and understand that the wipe happens at unlock, not during this root.
And if you ever want it gone, Magisk has an uninstall path, and a clean ROM flash always removes root.
Before you start
Check the cable, check the battery, and make sure you have the modded TWRP image and not some other recovery you downloaded months ago. Names look similar at a glance. It is worth reading the filename twice.
If the driver and platform tools are the part that always slows you down, the free Rom Flasher tool on GitHub bundles the ADB and fastboot driver install into a couple of clicks so you are not hunting through Device Manager. The link is in the downloads section.

Full description from the video
Rooting the Xiaomi Pad 5 on HyperOS takes about a minute once you have the files — here's the exact command-by-command method.
No drama, and no flashing a whole custom ROM. You boot a modded TWRP with fastboot boot, push Magisk in through adb, install it from recovery, and reboot. That's the whole thing. The transcript of this video is basically me doing it live, so you can follow along keystroke for keystroke.
The reason it works so cleanly is the modded TWRP for the Pad 5. Stock recovery won't help you here, and that's the file most people miss. Grab it, grab Magisk, and you're set.

❓ Common Questions
Q: Does rooting wipe my data?
A: This method doesn't touch your data, but unlocking the bootloader already does if you haven't done it yet.
Q: Can I unroot later?
A: Yes. Magisk has an uninstall path, and a clean ROM flash always removes root.
Q: Why modded TWRP instead of the normal one?
A: The standard recovery won't handle this properly on the Pad 5. Use the modded image.
Common questions
Does rooting the Xiaomi Pad 5 wipe my data?
This method does not touch your data. Unlocking the bootloader does wipe the tablet, though, so if you have not unlocked yet, back up first, because that wipe happens at the unlock step.
Why do I need modded TWRP instead of the normal TWRP or stock recovery?
The stock recovery will not handle this properly on the Pad 5, and normal TWRP is not the right image either. Use the modded TWRP image made for this tablet, or the whole method falls apart at step two.
Can I unroot the tablet later?
Yes. Magisk has a built-in uninstall path, and flashing a clean ROM removes root as well. Nothing about this method locks you in.
Do I need to keep the modded TWRP installed after rooting?
No. You boot it with fastboot from the PC rather than flashing it permanently, so the tablet goes back to its normal recovery after you reboot. That is why this method is so quick.
Magisk says root is not installed after I rebooted. What did I miss?
You probably did not open the Magisk app after rebooting. Launch it once so it can finish its setup, and reboot again if it asks you to. After that it should report as installed and active.
Before you flash
- Back up everything you would miss — unlocking and flashing usually wipe the phone.
- Check the file is built for your exact model and region.
- Keep a PC and a working cable around so a bootloop can be recovered.
