Sometimes the right move is to stop experimenting. You took a custom ROM for a spin, something small annoyed you, and now you want the phone back to the way Xiaomi made it. MIUI 11 on the Redmi Note 5 Pro is that build.
No mods. No ported code. Nothing layered on by anyone else. This is the stock Xiaomi software for whyred, and if what you want is for the phone to behave exactly like a Xiaomi phone, this is where you go.
What you get with MIUI 11
- The stock MIUI 11 interface, including the system-wide dark mode, which is the headline feature of this version.
- The redesigned settings layout that MIUI 11 introduced, with the grouped categories at the top.
- The updated notification shade and the new volume panel.
- Ultra battery saver, which genuinely helps on a phone with a tired battery at the end of the day.
- Mi Share for moving files between Xiaomi devices.
- The stock Xiaomi camera app with its own processing, which matters on this device.
That camera point is worth saying plainly. The MIUI camera does the post-processing, and on a phone like this that processing is a big part of why photos come out looking the way they do. If you switched away from stock and missed the camera, this is why.
What you need before you start
- A full backup of your data. The flash wipes the phone.
- An unlocked bootloader on whyred.
- A custom recovery working on the phone.
- The MIUI 11 zip for this device in internal storage.
- A battery above 60% and a cable that will not drop mid-flash.
Step 1 ā back up everything first
Do this before anything else. Copy your photos, downloads and anything else off the phone to a PC or a drive. Once the flash runs, internal storage is gone and there is no undo.
Step 2 ā unlock the bootloader and set up recovery
Unlock first. That wipes the phone too, so if you have not unlocked yet, back up, unlock, then carry on. Install a recovery for whyred and confirm it can read internal storage before you try to flash.
Step 3 ā move the MIUI 11 zip to internal storage
Put the zip on the phone, not on your PC. If something goes sideways in recovery you want the file already there rather than depending on a cable connection that may not come up.
Step 4 ā wipe system, data, cache and Dalvik
All four. Coming from a custom ROM, leaving system partitions behind is how you end up with a build that boots but misbehaves. A clean wipe here saves you an hour of confused troubleshooting later.
Step 5 ā flash the zip, then wipe cache and Dalvik again
Flash and let it finish. Do not interrupt it when the progress bar seems to stall. When it is done, wipe cache and Dalvik a second time before you reboot. It is an old habit, but it costs nothing and it keeps the first boot clean.
Step 6 ā reboot and let the first boot finish
The first boot is slow. Leave it alone, on the charger, until the setup wizard appears. Tapping the screen to check whether it is alive does not help.
Things worth knowing before you flash
- MIUI 11 on this device sits on an older Android base. That means you should not expect recent security patches. Be clear with yourself about that before you start.
- Some newer apps have started dropping support for that base. Most of what you use daily will still install and run. But this is software that is no longer moving forward.
- If you need Google apps, flash them exactly the way the release post describes. Not on a hunch, and not a different package because it was the one you found first.
- Updates stop here. MIUI 11 is where the official line ends on this device. There is no newer stock version to move to.
Where people get stuck
- Skipping the backup. The flash wipes internal storage. There is no recovery from that.
- Wiping data only, coming from a custom ROM. System too, or you get a build with leftovers in it.
- A recovery that cannot read storage. Check before you flash, not during.
- Interrupting the first boot. It is slow on this hardware. Give it the time.
Who should install this
Install MIUI 11 if you want the stock Xiaomi experience and nothing else on your Redmi Note 5 Pro. Banking apps usually behave because it is a stock build and not rooted. The camera works the way you remember it. Everything is where you left it.
Do not install it if you need current security patches or you depend on an app that has already dropped support for the older Android base underneath. In that case, a newer custom ROM is the more practical place to be, even if it is less familiar.
Whichever way you go, keep the zip you flashed somewhere you can find it. On a phone this old, being able to get back to a known state quickly is worth more than any feature.
If the unlock and driver part is what usually holds you up, the free Rom Flasher tool on GitHub bundles the ADB and fastboot driver install into a couple of clicks so Windows picks up the phone without a Device Manager fight. It is free, and the link is in the downloads section.

ā Common Questions
Q. Is this the official Xiaomi build? Yes, MIUI 11 as released for this device.
Q. Will my banking apps work? Usually, since it's a stock build and not rooted.
Q. Can I update from here? Check the release post, MIUI 11 is where the official line ends.
Common questions
Is this the official MIUI 11 build for the Redmi Note 5 Pro?
Yes. This is MIUI 11 as Xiaomi released it for this device, not a port and not a modified build. Nothing has been added to it by anyone else.
Will banking apps work on MIUI 11?
Usually, yes. It is a stock build and it is not rooted, so it does not trip the checks those apps normally run against. Test your own bank app after setup if it is essential to you.
Does flashing MIUI 11 wipe my data?
Yes. The flash resets the phone, and internal storage goes with it. Copy your photos, downloads and anything else you care about to a PC or a drive before you start.
Can I update to a newer MIUI after this?
MIUI 11 is the end of the official line for this device, so there is nothing newer from Xiaomi to move to. Check the release post for the build you use to confirm what it recommends.
Do I need to flash Google apps separately?
Flash them the way the release post for your build describes. Do not guess, and do not stack on a package that the post does not mention ā that is how you get crashes you cannot explain.
Before you flash
- Back up everything you would miss — unlocking and flashing usually wipe the phone.
- Check the file is built for your exact model and region.
- Keep a PC and a working cable around so a bootloop can be recovered.
