Official MIUI 14 on Xiaomi Pad 5 Fastboot Install Tutorial
Part of Xiaomi guides, MIUI guides, 2023 guides.
Official MIUI 14 for the Xiaomi Pad 5 flashes the fastboot way, from a folder on your PC. You download the fastboot ROM — not the recovery package — drop your platform tools in next to the scripts, boot the tablet to fastboot, and run the flash script. It wipes the tablet, so back up first.
The video starts muted so it does not blast at you — tap the speaker to hear it, or open it on YouTube.
You have finished experimenting with custom ROMs and you want the tablet back to something that simply works. For most people on the Pad 5 that is MIUI 14. Xiaomi's own software, the pen and keyboard behave the way they should, and updates arrive the way they are meant to.
The tricky part is the package, not the flashing. A recovery zip will not get you anywhere with this method. This is a fastboot flash, and it runs from a folder on your PC. Get the folder right and the job is nearly a double-click.
What you need
- The MIUI 14 fastboot ROM for the Xiaomi Pad 5. Not the recovery package — the fastboot one. They are different downloads.
- A Windows PC with the ADB and Fastboot driver installed.
- Platform Tools, extracted and ready to copy.
- A backup, because this wipes the tablet.
- A charged battery and a cable that is not falling apart.
The cable point sounds like a joke. It is not. Most stories about a flash ruining a tablet are actually a cable that dropped the connection halfway through.
Step 1 - take the fastboot package, not the recovery one
Download the fastboot ROM for your model from the link below. These packages are large, usually a few gigabytes, and they contain the raw images plus the flash scripts. If what you downloaded turns out to be a small recovery zip with an updater script inside and no batch files, you picked the wrong one. Go back and take the other download.
Match the model exactly. A ROM for another tablet variant will flash happily and then leave you with a device that will not boot, which is a much longer evening.
Step 2 - extract it properly
Extract the ROM zip into a folder you can find again, something like C:\miui\. Use 7-Zip or WinRAR rather than the built-in Windows extractor, which sometimes flattens the folder structure and leaves you with a pile of loose files.
If the extracted folder has no flash_all script inside it, the extraction went wrong. Redo it before you go any further.
Step 3 - copy platform tools into the ROM folder
Copy the contents of your Platform Tools folder — adb, fastboot and the files next to them — into that same ROM folder. They have to sit beside the images and the script, not in a subfolder.
This is the step people skip, and it is exactly why the script opens a black window and vanishes before you can read a single line. If you only take away one thing from this page, take this one.
Step 4 - boot the tablet to fastboot and check the PC sees it
Power the tablet off. Hold Volume Down and Power until the fastboot screen appears. Plug it into the PC and confirm the connection before you run anything. No serial number means the driver is missing, and retrying the script will not fix that. Sort the driver out first.
If the driver is the part that always slows you down, the free Rom Flasher tool on GitHub bundles the ADB and fastboot driver install so you are not hunting through Device Manager. It is free, and the link is with the others on this page.
Step 5 - run the flash script and keep your hands off it
Inside the ROM folder you will find the flash script. Run it as administrator. A window opens and starts printing partition names. Some lines take a while. That is normal on a tablet.
Do not unplug the cable. Do not close the window. Do not tap the tablet to see if it is still alive. When the script finishes, the tablet reboots on its own into a clean first-boot MIUI 14, and the setup wizard appears.
Where people get stuck
- Grabbing the recovery ROM instead of the fastboot ROM. That is the number one mistake here. Check for the batch files before you extract anything.
- Touching the cable while the flash runs. Pull it halfway and the tablet stops booting. Leave it alone until the window closes by itself.
- Forgetting to drop platform tools into the ROM folder. Then the script closes instantly and you assume the ROM is broken when it is the folder layout.
One honest note
A fastboot flash resets the tablet. Everything on internal storage goes, so move your photos and downloads off it first. The first boot after a clean flash is slow — finish the setup wizard and let the tablet settle before you start restoring files. If something is going to misbehave, you want it misbehaving on an empty tablet, not on top of two hours of restored data.
Should you do it this way
Do it if you want a clean stock tablet with no custom ROM leftovers hanging around, and you can follow the folder rules exactly. Skip it if you are short on time or cannot back up right now — there is no partial version of this. It is all or nothing.

Official MIUI 14 for the Xiaomi Pad 5, flashed the fastboot way — a clean stock tablet with no custom ROM leftovers hanging around.
MIUI 14 on the Pad 5 is the build most people want once they're done experimenting. It's Xiaomi's own software, the pen and keyboard still behave the way they should, and updates arrive the way they're meant to. The tricky part is the package. A recovery zip won't get you anywhere — this is a fastboot flash, and it runs from a folder on your PC.
📱 Device : Xiaomi Pad 5 (Mi Pad 5)
🧩 ROM : MIUI 14 (Official)
🧰 Tools : ADB & Fastboot driver · Platform Tools
🛠️ What You Need
- The MIUI 14 fastboot ROM for the Xiaomi Pad 5, not the recovery package
- A Windows PC with the ADB and Fastboot driver installed
- Platform Tools, extracted and ready to copy
- A backup, because this wipes the tablet
- A charged battery
📝 Steps
- Download the fastboot ROM for your model.
- Extract the zip — you'll get a folder full of images and the flash scripts.
- Copy the contents of the Platform Tools folder into that same folder, so the script can find fastboot without any extra tool installed.
- Boot the tablet into fastboot and connect it to the PC.
- Run the flash script (flash_all) by double-clicking it.
- Don't touch anything until it finishes and the tablet reboots on its own.
⚠️ Where People Get Stuck
- Grabbing the recovery ROM instead of the fastboot ROM. That's the number one mistake here.
- Touching the cable while the flash is running. Pull it halfway and the tablet stops booting.
- Forgetting to drop platform tools into the ROM folder, then watching the script close instantly.
Common questions
The flash window opens and closes instantly. What went wrong?
Your platform tools are not sitting in the ROM folder, or the extraction broke the structure. Put fastboot right next to the flash script instead of in a subfolder, and extract with 7-Zip or WinRAR rather than the built-in Windows extractor.
Does flashing MIUI 14 on the Pad 5 wipe my data?
Yes. A full fastboot flash writes the whole image, so internal storage is reset. Copy your photos and files off the tablet first and expect the setup wizard on first boot.
How is this different from flashing the recovery ROM?
The fastboot ROM contains the raw images and the flash scripts, so it runs from a folder on your PC. A recovery ROM is a smaller package you install through recovery. This method needs the fastboot one.
Do I need Mi Flash Tool for this?
No. A fastboot ROM plus platform tools in the right folder is enough on its own. If you would rather use a graphical tool, that is a separate route with its own setup requirements.
Can I flash a MIUI 14 build meant for another Xiaomi model?
Do not. Packages are built for a specific model and region. A mismatched build can write partitions the tablet cannot boot from, which turns a twenty-minute job into an unbootable device.
Before you flash
- Back up everything you would miss — unlocking and flashing usually wipe the phone.
- Check the file is built for your exact model and region.
- Keep a PC and a working cable around so a bootloop can be recovered.
