Questions people ask

What do these Kernel guides cover?

16 guides on this one job, across every phone it has been done on.

Which ROMs appear on this page?

AOSP, Evolution X, HyperOS, Kernel, KernelSU, LineageOS, MIUI, Pixel Experience, TWRP.

Which phones do these Kernel guides cover?

Mi 11X, POCO X7 Pro, Redmi K50i, Xiaomi 11T Pro, Xiaomi Pad 5.

Will I lose my data?

Unlocking the bootloader and writing a full firmware image usually wipe the phone. Back up anything you would miss before you start, and keep a PC and a cable nearby in case a bootloop needs fixing.

Do I need a computer for this?

Not always. The free Rom Flasher tool runs on a second Android phone joined by a USB-OTG cable, and drives fastboot, recovery and sideloading from there. Some jobs — unlocking a bootloader, for example — still go through the manufacturer's own tool on a PC.
