Redmi K50i TWRP Flash Guide Recovery, Root & More in 10 Min
Part of Redmi guides, TWRP guides, 2022 guides.
Installing TWRP on the Redmi K50i is a fastboot job: flash the recovery image built for this device, reboot straight into recovery before MIUI loads, then take a backup before you do anything else. Most people get stuck on the one detail that MIUI replaces the recovery if you let it boot normally after flashing.

TWRP on the Redmi K50i is the door you open once and then use forever. ROMs, root, kernels, backups, all of it goes through the recovery after this. It is a short job, about ten minutes if nothing fights you, and it is worth doing properly the first time.
Here is the order that works, and the one detail that catches almost everyone.
What you need
- Redmi K50i with an unlocked bootloader. This comes first and it wipes the phone.
- The TWRP image built for the Redmi K50i. Not another device.
- A Windows PC with fastboot and the USB drivers installed.
- A couple of backups once TWRP is in.
- Half an hour of quiet. This is not a job to rush.
Step 1 - get the right TWRP image
Download TWRP for the Redmi K50i specifically. This is where people go wrong, because a recovery from a similar-looking phone will flash without complaint and then behave badly. The image for another device can write to the wrong places, and you will not find out until something refuses to boot.
Step 2 - set up fastboot on the PC
Install the ADB and fastboot driver, plug the phone in, and confirm your PC can see it. Do this now, before the phone is in a state where it needs a working PC. A driver you have never tested is not a driver you can rely on.
Step 3 - boot the phone into fastboot
Power the phone off completely, then hold Volume Down and Power until the fastboot screen appears. Plug it into the PC and check that it is detected. If it is not showing up, fix the driver or the cable before you go any further.
Step 4 - flash the recovery image
Flash the TWRP image with fastboot. When it reports success, do not reboot to system. This is the step that matters.
Step 5 - boot straight into recovery, first time
Right after flashing, boot directly into recovery. Do not let the phone boot normally into MIUI in between.
Here is why. If MIUI boots first, it puts the stock recovery back and your TWRP is gone. It looks like the flash failed, but it did not, you just let the phone overwrite it. So the trick is to go from fastboot straight into recovery, without passing through MIUI.
Step 6 - take a backup before anything else
Once TWRP is up, take a full backup of system and data. This is the backup you will be glad about later, when a ROM or a mod does not boot and you want your phone back. Do this before you flash root, before you flash a ROM, before anything.
Step 7 - only then install root or a ROM
With the backup sitting safely, you can start flashing. Root, a custom ROM, a kernel, mods. All of it from recovery, no PC needed from here on unless something goes wrong.
Where people get stuck
- Booting into MIUI after flashing. This restores the stock recovery and wipes out TWRP. Boot recovery immediately after the flash, every time.
- Using a recovery from another device. It seems to work, and then it does not. Match the recovery to the K50i.
- Skipping the backup. Then a bootloop turns into a bad day instead of a ten-minute fix.
What you can do once TWRP is in
- Flash ROMs, kernels and mods without needing a PC.
- Take full system backups you can restore in one shot.
- Mount storage and pull your files off a phone that will not boot.
- Wipe cache and dalvik to clear the odd software hang.
One honest note
The annoying part of this whole job is the timing in step five. You have to be ready to boot recovery the moment the flash finishes, and if you look away, MIUI sneaks in and you do the flash again. It is not hard, it just needs you to be paying attention for thirty seconds. After that, TWRP is yours and the rest of the process is relaxed.
If the driver side is what usually slows you down, the free Rom Flasher tool installs the ADB and fastboot driver for you so you are not hunting through Device Manager. It is free, and the link is in the downloads section with the TWRP image.

Common questions
Why does TWRP disappear after I flash it on the Redmi K50i?
Because MIUI booted first and put the stock recovery back. After flashing TWRP, boot straight into recovery without letting the phone boot normally. The flash was fine, you just need to enter recovery immediately.
Does flashing TWRP wipe my Redmi K50i?
Flashing the recovery itself does not wipe your data, but the bootloader unlock that comes before it does. If you have not unlocked yet, back up after unlocking, not before.
Do I need an unlocked bootloader for TWRP?
Yes. An unlocked bootloader is required before you can flash any recovery. It is a separate step and it wipes the phone, so do it first.
Which TWRP image should I use for the Redmi K50i?
The one built for the Redmi K50i. Do not use a recovery from another device, even a similar one. A mismatched recovery can write to the wrong places and leave the phone unable to boot.
What should I do first after installing TWRP?
Take a full backup of system and data before flashing anything else. That backup is what saves you when a ROM, kernel or mod does not boot, and you can restore it in one shot.
Before you flash
- Back up everything you would miss — unlocking and flashing usually wipe the phone.
- Check the file is built for your exact model and region.
- Keep a PC and a working cable around so a bootloop can be recovered.
