Arrow OS, Lineage OS and Pixel OS all run well on the Redmi K50i, and none of them turns the phone into a hand warmer. The differences are about feel and polish, not raw speed, because the chip inside is the same in every run. If you want the leanest daily driver, the AOSP side is where that lives.

Three ROMs, one phone, the same apps and the same daily load. That is the whole test. I did not chase benchmark screenshots, because a number in a graph does not tell you how the phone behaves at 9pm with 30 percent battery left. So this one is about real use.

The interesting part is that all three of these are AOSP-flavoured builds. That is the reason people move off MIUI in the first place: no pile of stock apps, no background services you never asked for. My Redmi K50i, the xaga model, is quick hardware. Stock software never really let it breathe. These builds do.

What I actually ran

Same network, same apps installed, same brightness habit. The only thing that changed between runs was the ROM sitting on top.

What the three feel like

Arrow OS is the lean one. Animations are quick, the app drawer opens without a pause, and there is almost nothing on the phone that you did not put there. If you want the phone to feel like a tool and not a shop window, this is the direction.

Lineage OS is the steady one. It has the longest track record of the three, and it shows in how boring it is. No surprises, no weird battery behaviour, no app that refuses to open. On the K50i it sits right next to Arrow OS in feel. You are not giving anything up by picking it.

Pixel OS is the same base with the Pixel clothes on. The launcher, the settings layout, the little touches — it is a different personality over the same engine. That is a taste thing, not a speed thing, and I would not pick it because I think it is faster. I would pick it because I like how it looks.

Thermals and battery, honestly

None of these three turned the K50i into a hand warmer. I pushed all three through the same longer load and the phone got warm, the way any phone gets warm. It cooled back down. Nothing throttled hard enough that I noticed in normal use.

Battery is where I want to be careful with you. The first charge or two on any new ROM always looks worse. Background jobs settle, caches rebuild, and the phone is doing more work than it will do next week. People write off a perfectly good build on day one, then reflash something else and repeat the whole thing. Give it a few days before you judge.

Who should install which

Before you flash any of them

All three need an unlocked bootloader and a custom recovery. Both of those are separate jobs, so handle them before you touch a ROM zip. Unlocking wipes the phone, so that is the day you lose your data, not the day of the flash.

If the driver side of setting up your PC feels like the annoying part, the free Rom Flasher tool on GitHub bundles the ADB and fastboot driver install into a couple of clicks. The link is in the downloads section.

One last thing. Flash one ROM, finish the setup wizard, and use it for a couple of days before you jump to the next one. The honest comparison is the one where you gave each build a fair week. Mine above is the short version; your week will tell you more than any table I could draw.

Full description from the video

Redmi K50i performance test with Arrow OS, Lineage OS and Pixel OS — the same phone, three ROMs, back to back.

Same K50i, same apps, same daily load. The only thing that changed between runs was the ROM sitting on top. I didn't go chasing benchmark screenshots here, because a number in a graph doesn't tell you how a phone feels at 9pm when the battery is at 30 percent. So this one is about real use: boot, scroll, multitask, warm up, cool down.

All three of these are AOSP-flavoured builds, which is the whole point of moving off MIUI — no pile of stock apps, no background stuff you never asked for. What separates them is style and polish, not raw hardware, because the chip inside the K50i is the same in all three runs.

🔬 What Was Tested

  • Cold boot on each of the three ROMs, side by side
  • Scrolling and app opening on Arrow OS
  • The same load repeated on Lineage OS so the comparison is fair
  • The same usage again on Pixel OS
  • Multitasking with a few apps held in the background
  • Thermals as the phone settled under a longer load
  • Battery behaviour through a normal day, not a stress loop

📊 Verdict

None of these three turned the Redmi K50i into a hand warmer, and all of them stay usable as a daily driver. If you want the leanest feel, the AOSP side — Arrow OS and Lineage OS — is where that lives. Pixel OS brings the Pixel look and feel on top of the same base, and that's a taste thing more than a speed thing.

What I'd warn you about: give any new ROM a few days before you judge battery. The first charge or two always looks worse while things settle, and people write off a perfectly good build on day one.

Common questions

Which ROM is the fastest on the Redmi K50i, Arrow OS or Lineage OS?

There is no clear winner in normal use. Both are AOSP builds on the same hardware, and they feel close. Arrow OS edges ahead on the leanest feel because it ships with the least, but Lineage OS is not slow. Pick on polish, not on speed.

Does Pixel OS run slower than AOSP ROMs on the K50i?

No. Pixel OS sits on the same AOSP base, so it is the same speed underneath. What changes is the launcher and the settings layout. If it feels different, that is the skin, not the engine.

Do these custom ROMs make the Redmi K50i overheat?

Not in my runs. All three got warm under a longer load and cooled back down, the same as any phone. None of them turned the K50i into a hand warmer, and nothing throttled hard enough to notice in daily use.

Why is battery life worse after flashing a new ROM?

The first charge or two always looks worse while the phone settles. Background jobs run once, caches rebuild, and your usage pattern is new. Give any build a few days before you judge the battery.

Do I have to wipe my data to flash Arrow OS or Lineage OS on the K50i?

Yes. Coming from stock MIUI, or from a different ROM, you format data in recovery before flashing. That takes internal storage with it, so move your photos and chats off the phone first.
