MIUI 14 on Redmi K50i TWRP Flash Guide for Redmi Phones
Part of Redmi guides, MIUI guides, 2022 guides.
MIUI 14 for the Redmi K50i flashes through TWRP, not a PC, and the whole job is minutes if the phone is in a clean state to begin with. Format data before you flash, especially coming from MIUI 13, then let the first boot take its time. Leftover root and a half-finished OTA are what cause the bootloops.
The video starts muted so it does not blast at you — tap the speaker to hear it, or open it on YouTube.
MIUI 14 was the update everyone wanted on the Redmi K50i, and this is how you flash it instead of waiting on a rollout. The whole job runs through recovery, so the rhythm is simple: files ready, recovery ready, wipe, flash.
What people actually get wrong is not the flashing. It is the state the phone is in when they start. Leftover root, an encrypted data partition, a half-finished OTA sitting in the background. Clean the slate and this takes minutes.
What you need
- A Redmi K50i with an unlocked bootloader.
- TWRP already flashed. If you do not have it, that is a separate job and you should finish it first.
- The MIUI 14 zip for the K50i, from the link in the downloads section.
- A full backup off the device. Formatting data takes internal storage with it.
- A battery past half, and a cable you trust.
- A PC nearby. You probably will not need it for the ROM, but keep one close.
Step 1 - back up, properly
Not a cloud sync. Copy your photos, your downloads, your chats and anything you would be upset about losing onto a PC or a drive. Formatting data in recovery does not ask twice, and there is no undo.
Charge the phone past half while you are at it. A flash that dies at 40 percent is a long evening.
Step 2 - move the zip onto the phone
Download the MIUI 14 zip and copy it to the phone's internal storage. Wait until the transfer actually finishes. A half-copied file in TWRP fails in the middle of the flash, and that is one of the few ways to genuinely make a mess.
Keep it somewhere you can find in TWRP — the root of internal storage is easiest.
Step 3 - boot into TWRP
Power the phone off, then hold Volume Up and Power until the recovery screen appears. If you get the stock Mi Recovery instead, TWRP is not installed and you are in the wrong place.
Once TWRP is up, check that it can read internal storage. If TWRP asks for a password or shows empty folders, your data partition is encrypted and you need to format it before you go further.
Step 4 - wipe before you flash
This is the step that decides your evening.
- Coming from MIUI 13 or another ROM: format data, not a plain wipe. Formatting is the one that removes the encryption and starts you clean.
- Coming from the same MIUI 14 line: a dirty flash can work, but only if you did not touch system files, root or a mod.
- If you have Magisk or root modules installed: remove them first. Root leftovers in the wrong place are a bootloop waiting to happen.
A dirty jump between major MIUI versions is where bootloops come from. If you are unsure, format. You lose data either way, so you might as well lose it cleanly.
Step 5 - flash the zip
In TWRP, choose Install, pick the MIUI 14 zip, and confirm. Let it run without tapping the screen. When it finishes, do not reboot blindly into the system if you also plan to install anything else. If you want root, this is the moment, right after the ROM and before the first boot.
Step 6 - reboot and wait
Reboot to system. The first boot is longer than stock MIUI, noticeably so. Give it a few minutes before you assume it is stuck. The screen may sit on the logo, and then the setup wizard appears.
If it sits for a very long time and you formatted correctly, the usual culprit is a half-copied zip or a leftover root module. Go back into TWRP and start from the wipe.
Where people get stuck
- Skipping the format. Dirty flashing across major MIUI versions is the top cause of a bootloop. Format data and stop guessing.
- Leftover root. Uninstall Magisk and its modules before flashing a new MIUI build. Otherwise the system boots into a loop it cannot explain to you.
- A half-finished OTA or a corrupt zip. If the OTA was partway through when you started, or the zip copy was interrupted, the flash fails in a place that is hard to read.
Honest notes
TWRP on the K50i is community work, and older recovery builds can be fussy about encrypted storage. If TWRP will not read your files, that is a recovery problem, not a ROM problem, and it is worth checking for a newer recovery build before you blame the zip.
Also, once you are on a custom recovery path, OTA updates stop arriving on their own. You update by flashing the next build yourself. That is the deal, and it is fine as long as you know it going in.
If you are still at the stage where your PC does not recognise the phone, the free Rom Flasher tool on GitHub wraps the ADB and fastboot driver install into a couple of clicks so you are not stuck reading Device Manager. The link is in the downloads section.

❓ Common Questions
- Do I need TWRP already? Yes. If you don't have it, the recovery guide below covers that part first.
- Can I flash straight over MIUI 13? Back up and format data before flashing — dirty jumps between major MIUI versions are where bootloops come from.
- Is a PC required? Not for the ROM itself if TWRP is already running, but keep one nearby anyway.
- How long is the first boot? Longer than stock. Give it a few minutes before you assume it's stuck.
Common questions
Can I flash MIUI 14 straight over MIUI 13 on the Redmi K50i?
You can, but format data first. A dirty jump between major MIUI versions carries old state into the new build, and that is exactly where bootloops come from. Back up, format, then flash.
Do I need TWRP to install MIUI 14 on the Redmi K50i?
Yes, this method runs through recovery. If TWRP is not on the phone yet, installing the recovery is a separate job, so handle that first and come back to the ROM.
How long does the first boot take after flashing MIUI 14?
Longer than stock MIUI, often a few minutes on the logo before the setup wizard appears. Put the phone down and let it finish. Only start worrying if it has sat there much longer than that.
Do I lose root when I flash MIUI 14?
Yes. A ROM flash overwrites the boot image, so Magisk goes with it. Flash the ROM first, then root again straight afterwards, before you boot into the system.
Will flashing MIUI 14 on the K50i wipe my internal storage?
Formatting data in recovery clears internal storage completely. Copy your photos and chats off the phone before you start, and expect to set the phone up again from scratch.
Before you flash
- Back up everything you would miss — unlocking and flashing usually wipe the phone.
- Check the file is built for your exact model and region.
- Keep a PC and a working cable around so a bootloop can be recovered.
