MIUI VS 14 on Redmi K50i Install a MIUI ROM, Step by Step
Part of Redmi guides, MIUI guides, 2022 guides.
MIUI VS 14 is a MIUI-based custom ROM that you flash on the Redmi K50i from recovery, not from a PC. You copy the zip to storage, boot into TWRP, format data, flash, and reboot. It keeps the MIUI feel you already know, so it is a decent first custom ROM project — as long as you back up first, because formatting data wipes the phone.
The video starts muted so it does not blast at you — tap the speaker to hear it, or open it on YouTube.
You have seen the screenshots, you like the MIUI look, and you do not want to learn a whole new interface. That is exactly what a MIUI-based ROM like MIUI VS 14 is for. You keep the dialer, the settings layout, the feel of the phone you already own. What changes is the build underneath.
The other reason this one lands well with people is that it is a recovery flash. No fastboot windows, no driver fights. Copy a file, boot to recovery, tap through a few menus, wait. The only part that bites is the boring part — formatting data is not reversible, and it takes everything with it.
Do the backup. Seriously. That is the whole reason this install goes smoothly for some people and ruins the evening for others.
What you need
- The MIUI VS 14 zip built for the Redmi K50i — the link is below.
- TWRP or another custom recovery already on the phone. If you have not done that yet, do it first.
- An unlocked bootloader. This is a prerequisite, not a step you skip.
- A full backup. Photos, chats, documents, everything you would be upset to lose.
- Battery above 50%, so the phone does not die in the middle of the flash.
- The correct firmware base. This is the one people ignore and then blame the ROM for weird bugs.
Step 1 — download, then copy the zip to the phone
Grab the MIUI VS 14 zip for the K50i from the link below. Then copy it onto internal storage before you reboot. It sounds trivial, but people reboot into recovery first, then realise the zip is sitting on a PC they now have to dig out a cable for. Have it on the phone already.
If you have an SD card or a USB drive you can read from recovery, that works too — sometimes better, because a data format will not touch it.
Step 2 — boot into recovery and take your backup
Power off, then use your usual key combo for recovery. In TWRP, run the backup before anything else. Tick the partitions you care about, and make sure the backup lands somewhere a data format cannot reach — that means off the phone, or on an external drive.
Why before the flash and not after? Because the moment you format data, the old phone state is gone. There is no going back to grab one more thing.
Step 3 — format data, properly
Go to Wipe, then Format Data. Not the plain wipe — the format option, and you will need to type yes to confirm. This is the step that clears the encryption and the old system state, and it is what makes the new ROM boot cleanly.
Yes, this wipes internal storage along with the rest. That is exactly what the backup in step 2 was for.
Step 4 — flash the ROM and let it finish
Back to the main menu, then Install. Pick the MIUI VS 14 zip you copied across and swipe to flash. Watch for the "done" or "successful" message. If it fails partway, do not reboot — copy the log, and check whether the zip you downloaded matches the K50i.
One tip: if the installer offers a choice between a clean flash and a dirty flash, take clean. A dirty flash over a different base is the fastest way to a ROM that boots and then behaves strangely.
Step 5 — reboot to system and leave it alone
Reboot to system. The first boot on a freshly formatted phone takes a few minutes. You will usually see the boot animation for a while, sometimes longer than feels comfortable. That is normal on a first boot after a data format.
Do not pull the battery, do not force a reboot, do not panic. Finish the setup wizard, then start restoring your files.
Where people get stuck
- Wiped instead of formatted. A plain wipe leaves the old encryption in place, and the ROM boots into a mess or a bootloop. Use Format Data.
- Wrong base firmware. A MIUI ROM flashed over a different base is where the odd bugs live. Check what the ROM thread expects and match it.
- Flashing from a folder you cannot trust. A zip that downloaded only halfway will fail the flash, or worse, appear to succeed. Re-download if the file size looks off.
The honest bit
MIUI VS 14 is a comfortable choice, not an exciting one. It looks like MIUI, it behaves like MIUI, and that is the point. If what you wanted was a stripped, Google-free phone, this is not that. If what you wanted was your familiar phone with a different base and a few refinements, this is exactly that.
Going back later is easy — a stock MIUI fastboot package flashed with the standard script puts everything back the way it was. The bootloader stays unlocked, so you are not locked into the decision.
If the recovery and driver side is where you get stuck, the free Rom Flasher tool on GitHub wraps the ADB and fastboot driver install into a couple of clicks so you can spend your time on the flash, not on Device Manager. It is free, and the link is in the downloads section.

Full description from the video
MIUI VS 14 on the Redmi K50i — flash a MIUI-based ROM on a Redmi phone the clean way, from the download to the first boot.
MIUI VS 14 keeps the MIUI feel people already know and flashes on Redmi devices, and this clip runs the whole thing on the K50i so you can follow the same order. It's a recovery flash, not a PC marathon, which makes it a decent first project if you've never touched a custom ROM before. The one rule is the boring one: back up first, because formatting data is not reversible.
📱 Device : Redmi K50i
🧩 ROM : MIUI VS 14
💾 Type : MIUI-based custom ROM
🧰 You need: ROM zip · TWRP recovery · unlocked bootloader · full backup
🛠️ What You Need
- The MIUI VS 14 zip for the Redmi K50i — link below
- TWRP or another custom recovery already on the phone
- A full backup: photos, chats, everything goes when you format data
- Battery above 50% so the phone doesn't die mid-flash
- The correct firmware base — a MIUI ROM over the wrong base is where weird bugs come from
📝 Steps
- Copy the ROM zip to internal storage before you reboot.
- Boot into recovery and take your backup.
- Format data — not just wipe. You want the format option.
- Flash the MIUI VS 14 zip and wait until it says done.
- Reboot to system. First boot takes a few minutes, so leave it alone.
❓ Common Questions
- Will this erase my data? Yes, formatting data is part of the process.
- Do I need a PC? Not for a recovery flash, but keep one nearby just in case.
- Can I return to stock MIUI? Yes, with a fastboot flash of the stock package later.
Common questions
Will flashing MIUI VS 14 erase my data?
Yes. Formatting data is part of the install, and it clears internal storage along with everything else. Copy your photos, chats and files off the phone first, and expect the setup wizard on the first boot.
Do I need a PC to install MIUI VS 14 on the Redmi K50i?
Not for the flash itself — it is a recovery install, so the zip can go straight onto the phone. Keep a PC nearby anyway in case you need to re-download the zip or recover a failed flash.
Can I go back to stock MIUI after this?
Yes. Download the stock MIUI fastboot package for the K50i and flash it with the standard script on a PC. The bootloader stays unlocked, so nothing stands in the way.
Does MIUI VS 14 need an unlocked bootloader?
Yes. A custom recovery like TWRP cannot be installed on a locked bootloader, and without TWRP you cannot flash this ROM. Unlock first — that step wipes the phone on its own.
Why does my first boot take so long?
A data format plus a new base means the phone rebuilds its state from scratch, so the first boot regularly takes several minutes. Do not interrupt it — a forced reboot mid-setup is a good way to start over.
Before you flash
- Back up everything you would miss — unlocking and flashing usually wipe the phone.
- Check the file is built for your exact model and region.
- Keep a PC and a working cable around so a bootloop can be recovered.
