Part of Redmi guides, MIUI guides, 2022 guides.

You want the MIUI dialer on a Redmi K50i that shipped with Google's phone app, and the route is the official China ROM. It works, call recording comes with it, and the trade is losing some Google-side smarts plus your India region services. Back up first, because the flash wipes everything.

The video starts muted so it does not blast at you — tap the speaker to hear it, or open it on YouTube.

No PC in the room? The free Rom Flasher tool runs the whole flash from the phone in your hand — USB-OTG cable, no laptop, no command line.

Here is the situation. Your Redmi K50i came with the Google dialer. It calls people, it works, and it is plain. Somewhere along the way you noticed that the MIUI dialer records calls from inside the app, has T9 search on the keypad, and actually deals with spam. So now you want that dialer, and the only clean way to get it is the official China ROM.

That is what this is about. Not a mod, not a patch. An official build that happens to ship the dialer you want.

What I checked after flashing

Why the China ROM

MIUI ships different dialers in different regions. The build sold in India and much of the world uses Google's phone app, because that is what Google requires for the region. The China build uses Xiaomi's own dialer, the one with recording built in.

So the goal is not to hack a dialer into your current build. The goal is to flash the official China ROM, which already has it, and then put your Google apps back on afterwards.

Before you start

What actually changes for you

This is the part I want you to read before you commit, not after.

What worked well

The MIUI dialer is the reason to do this, and it delivered. Call recording alone is worth it if you actually use your phone for calls. Recording runs from the dialer itself, so you press once and the call records — no extra app, no notification you have to fight.

Incoming call handling felt more useful too. Spam gets flagged in the way you would expect from a dialer that Xiaomi actually maintains for calls, rather than one Google builds for a global average.

T9 search on the keypad is small but you notice it within a day. You type three letters of a name and the contact is there. Going back to anything else feels clumsy.

Dual SIM behaved normally for me. Contacts merged into the Google account without me doing anything clever — it took a minute to settle after the restore, which is normal when you land on a fresh build with a few hundred contacts.

Honest notes

Nothing broke for me in normal use. But this is an official China build, so a couple of region services just are not there, and you will notice them by absence rather than by an error message. If your day depends on a specific regional app, check that it installs before you go all in.

Also, do not relock the bootloader on a China ROM flashed this way. Leaving it unlocked keeps your options open if you want to go back.

If the driver and flashing setup on the PC is the part you do not enjoy, the free Rom Flasher tool on GitHub bundles the ADB and fastboot driver install into a couple of clicks so you are not hunting Device Manager. The link is in the downloads section.

Full description from the video

The whole point of this one is simple. Getting the MIUI dialer onto a Redmi K50i that came with Google's phone app. The route is the official China ROM, and yes, it works.

📱 Device : Redmi K50i

🧩 ROM : MIUI China ROM (official)

🎯 Goal : MIUI dialer instead of Google dialer

🔬 What I Checked

  • Call recording from inside the dialer, no third-party app needed
  • Spam and caller ID handling on incoming calls
  • T9 search when you type a name on the keypad
  • How dual SIM calls and the SIM picker behave
  • Whether contacts merge properly with your Google account
  • The look of it, because the Google dialer is plain and this one isn't

📊 Verdict

The MIUI dialer is the reason to do this flash. Call recording alone is worth it if you actually use your phone for calls. The flip side is that some Google-side smarts disappear, like the caller ID that pulls from Google search, and your contacts need a minute to settle after you restore them. Nothing broke for me in normal use, but this is an official China build, so a couple of region services just aren't there.

🧩 Before You Start

  • Bootloader unlocked, that's the entry ticket
  • A full backup, because the flash wipes the phone
  • The China ROM package plus the flash tool on your PC
  • Patience for the first boot, it's slower than you'd expect

⚠️ What Changes for You

  • Region apps and some India services won't be on the build
  • Google apps may need reinstalling by hand
  • OTA updates come from the China channel, not the India one

Common questions

Does the MIUI dialer on the Redmi K50i have call recording built in?

Yes. Call recording runs from inside the dialer itself, with no third-party app. That is the main reason people flash the official China ROM onto this phone.

Which ROM has the MIUI dialer instead of the Google dialer?

The official China ROM does. Xiaomi ships its own dialer in the China build, while the India and global builds use Google's phone app, so flashing the China package is the clean route to the MIUI dialer.

Do I lose Google apps by flashing the China ROM?

Not permanently, but you lose them for the moment. The China build does not include the Play Store and the Google apps, so you install them yourself afterwards.

Will call recording stop working after an update on the China ROM?

Updates come from the China channel, which keeps the MIUI dialer and its recording feature. What you will not get are the India region updates or apps, so treat this as switching channels rather than staying put.

Does flashing the China ROM on the Redmi K50i wipe my data?

Yes. A full ROM flash resets internal storage, so the setup wizard waits for you on first boot. Copy your photos and chats off the phone before you start, and expect the Google apps to come back by hand.
